# What you send on Telegram appears in the app

Yes: one conversation, shared by the app and Telegram; what you send on Telegram shows in the app, marked via Telegram, with Marrow's reply. What you send in the app stays in the app and is not copied to your Telegram chat, but the next message on either side sees the whole history.

Marrow is an app on your phone, and you can also talk to it on Telegram. Both show the same conversation, held by one account. Marrow is in Beta, and this post covers where the two are not symmetrical.

## A Telegram message shows in the app, not the other way round

Every message carries the place it was sent from. A voice note sent on Telegram appears in the app within seconds, marked via Telegram, with Marrow's reply beneath it.

The other direction differs. A message you send in the app, and Marrow's reply, stay in the app and are not copied into your Telegram chat. What both sides share is the history Marrow works from, so a question Marrow asked in the app, such as which Tuesday you meant, can be answered from Telegram.

## What shows where

| | In the app | In your Telegram chat |
| --- | --- | --- |
| A message you send on Telegram, and its reply | Yes, marked via Telegram | Yes |
| A message you send in the app, and its reply | Yes | No |
| The daily brief, reminders and Marrow's own questions | When "Where Marrow reaches you" is set to this app, or both | When it is set to Telegram, or both |
| People, follow ups, organisations and deals | The People, Follow ups and More tabs | The web view inside Telegram |
| Phone contacts and the phone's calendar | Yes, when you switch them on | No; they belong to the phone |

A reply to your own message comes back where you wrote it. What Marrow starts by itself goes where "Where Marrow reaches you" points.

## Linking the two takes one code

In the app, open Settings, then Telegram, then “Get a link code”. The code works for 10 minutes.
Send the code to Marrow on Telegram after the link command.
The answer reads “Done: this chat and the Marrow app are now one account, with one conversation.”

If you verified an email on Telegram, signing in to the app with the same email lands you on the same account. If both sides already hold people, nothing is joined, and writing to hello@usemarrow.com gets them merged for you.

## The app adds the parts of the phone a chat cannot reach

It adds the People and Follow ups tabs, hold to record, the camera button and the "Tell Marrow" quick action on a long press of the icon. On Android it adds a home screen widget.

It can import your phone's contacts when you ask, write new people back if you switch that on, and write follow ups into a calendar called Marrow. The brief and reminders can arrive as notifications.

## Telegram suits some people better

- You keep your working chats in Telegram and want Marrow in the same list.
- You would rather receive the brief as a Telegram message than as a notification.
- You began on Telegram, where a short onboarding asks for a language, a name and your work. Linking the app later adds the tabs, contacts and calendar without changing what is already there.

One job still happens outside the app: subscriptions are bought on the web at [checkout](/checkout) or from Telegram, not inside the app. Exporting everything as JSON works in the app's Settings as well as on Telegram.

The [Telegram page](/features/telegram) has the full detail of that channel.
