# Screenshot the thread and the person is filed with the promise

Screenshot the whole thread with the sender's name and signature in view, send it to Marrow in the chat, and read the reply. Marrow files the people in it, logs the thread once and sets a follow up for any dated promise.

The people you need to remember can reach you in a thread, not in a handshake. A screenshot is often the quickest way to keep that thread. Here is how to make one that files well.

## The steps

1. **Capture the whole thread.** Include the names, the dates and the signature, not only the last message.
2. **Send it in the chat.** Attach it with the camera or photos button.
3. **Read the reply.** It lists who was saved, the thread logged with its date and any follow up.
4. **Answer the lookup question.** Say yes to enrich someone from their public profile, or no.

## Which screenshots work

A chat thread screenshot may come from a chat app or from email. Marrow connects to none of them, it reads the picture. These are the ones that file well.

| Screenshot | What Marrow files |
| --- | --- |
| An email thread | The sender, everyone on To and Cc, and the signature details; the thread logged once |
| A chat thread | The people in it and a short summary of the thread |
| A signature | The details in the signature |
| A screenshot with a profile link in it | The link is read at once when you add one person or a few, and counts as one lookup |

A newsletter is recognised and nobody is saved.

## What is read and what is not

The picture is read: names, signatures, dates and the promises written in the thread. Nothing outside the picture is. A message you did not screenshot does not exist for Marrow.

A screenshot never overwrites a role or company you already stored. Marrow sends no message to anyone.

## The promise in the thread becomes a follow up

When the thread says someone will do something on a day, Marrow sets a follow up on that day. A future meeting becomes a follow up on its date too. In the example above, the promise to send an audit proposal with two scope options on Thursday appears in the Follow ups tab.

## A profile link counts as a lookup

A profile link visible in a screenshot or a signature is read straight away when you add one person or a few, and it counts as one lookup on your plan. A bigger batch keeps the question of whom to look up. To stop it, switch off "Read a profile link automatically" in Settings.

## Privacy

A screenshot is a photo in the chat. A cleaned copy, re-encoded without location or camera data, is kept for 30 days so the chat can show it, then deleted. Crop out what you do not need, such as a private thread with someone else. Each screenshot counts against your plan's photos.

## Where Marrow fits

Marrow is an app on iPhone and Android, in Beta. It describes a thread from the picture, so check the reply for the right name and role.

Who should not bother: if you keep few threads and file them by hand, a folder of screenshots works. Marrow drafts a reply when you ask, marked not sent, and you send it yourself.
