# Five messages ready to send after a conference

Write within two days, name the conversation in the opening line, and end with one small next step. Below are five messages built differently, from a one liner to a formal note, with what to change in each.

A follow up is easier to answer when it names the conversation in its opening line and asks for one small thing. Send it within two days, while your name still matches a face. Each message below is complete as written, so pick the one that matches how well you know the person and sign it yourself.

## Five messages for the week after

### A one liner, for a short conversation

Fits someone you spoke with for a few minutes and want to keep warm.

> Salma, thank you for the talk at the food logistics expo about cold storage for imported produce. I would like to stay in touch.

### A three sentence note, with one question

Fits a conversation that opened a topic you both care about.

> Omran, thank you for the conversation at the renewable energy expo. You mentioned that Helios Rooftop Solar is struggling to find installers for hotel rooftops, and I have been turning it over since. Would you be open to a short call next week to hear how you are approaching it?

### One with a concrete offer

Fits when you promised something on the floor; attach it to this message.

> Ravindra, it was good to meet you after the supply chain panel in Riyadh. As promised, here is the audit checklist, with the part on temperature logging marked.
>
> If it helps, I can also introduce you to Salma Qattan at Jalwa Fresh Logistics, who runs cold chain for food importers in the Gulf. Reply with a yes and I will write to you both.

### One for a warmer conversation

Fits someone you talked with properly and would like to keep as more than a contact.

> Hana, it was a pleasure to meet you at the urban design biennale. The way you described designing for summer heat stayed with me. If you are ever in Dubai, dinner? I want to hear how the school campus goes.

### One in a more formal register

Fits a senior contact, or a culture where titles come before given names.

> Dear Mr Benali,
>
> Thank you for the conversation at dinner after the maritime law conference. Your view on charter disputes was one of the most useful things I heard that week.
>
> I would welcome the chance to continue it at your convenience, by telephone or in person, whichever suits you.
>
> With kind regards,

## Before you send

Read the opening line as the recipient would. Does it say which conversation you mean?
Cut any sentence about you that does not help them.
End with the next step and, where you can, a day.

## Where Marrow fits

Tell Marrow about each conversation in a voice note or a typed line, and it logs the meeting and files any promise as a follow up. Ask for a draft and it writes one from what you told it, marked not sent. You copy it and send it yourself, because Marrow does not send messages on your behalf. Marrow is in Beta. If you meet a handful of people a year, a note on your phone does the same job.
