# Five messages for the people who visited your trade show booth

Write within two days, open with the conversation at your stand, and send the specific thing each visitor asked for. A visitor who stopped for a minute needs a lighter message than one who asked for a quote.

An exhibitor's follow up competes with the other stands the visitor walked past. Open with what was said at yours, send what they asked for, and match the weight of the message to the weight of the conversation. The five messages below run from a light touch to a formal note, and each is complete as written.

## Five messages for the week after the show

### A one liner, with what they asked for

Fits a visitor who asked for something specific at the stand; send it within two days.

> Omran, thank you for stopping at our stand at the renewable energy expo. Here is the pricing sheet you asked for, as promised.

### A three sentence note to a neighbouring exhibitor

Fits the exhibitor on the next stand, who is a peer rather than a prospect.

> Leila, it was good to be your neighbour at the fashion trade show. Your fabric display kept drawing visitors toward our corner. Would you like to compare notes on the show over a call next week?

### One with a concrete offer

Fits a visitor who asked whether you could meet a requirement.

> Salma, thank you for the conversation at our stand at the food logistics expo. You asked whether our sensors could handle a bonded cold room, so I have put together a short sample quote for Jalwa Fresh Logistics, attached.
>
> If it is close to what you need, I can walk you through it on a call next week.

### One for a warmer conversation

Fits a visitor who stayed to talk after the pitches.

> Amani, thank you for staying to talk at our stand after your pitch at the agritech demo day. Finding cold storage partners in the Gulf is a problem I would like to help with, and I have someone in mind. Shall I introduce you?

### One in a more formal register, to a journalist who left a card

Fits a journalist who interviewed you after a panel at the show and left a card.

> Dear Ms Kowal,
>
> Thank you for the interview after the panel, and for leaving your card. I read Signal Hill Media for its coverage of regional trade.
>
> Should a briefing on the cold chain be of interest, I would be glad to arrange one at your convenience.
>
> With kind regards,

## Sort the cards before you write

Asked for something: send it within two days.
Had a real conversation: a three sentence note with one question.
Left a card and walked on: a light message, or none.

## Where Marrow fits

Photograph each card at the stand and add a line about the conversation. Marrow saves the person from the card and reads your line with it. Ask for a follow up and it drafts one, marked not sent. You send it yourself, because Marrow does not send messages on your behalf. Marrow is in Beta. It is a personal tool, so a stand team that shares one lead list will want a shared system as well.
