One row per investor, ten columns, three messages for the weeks after a demo day

Use one row per investor with ten columns: name, fund, stage, cheque size, thesis fit, introduced by, what they asked, what you promised, next step and date. Fill it the day you meet them and send the three messages below as the weeks pass.

A tracker earns its place when each row tells you what to do next. Keep it to the columns below, copy them into a spreadsheet or a notes page, and fill a row the day you meet the investor. The guide on tracking investors after a demo day explains how to work the list.

The ten columns

Each column has a single job. If you cannot fill one, leave it empty rather than guessing.

Column What goes in it
Name The investor, spelled the way they say it.
Fund The fund or angel group they invest through.
Stage The rounds they invest in, in their words.
Cheque size The range they named, not your estimate.
Thesis fit One honest line on where your company sits against what they back.
Introduced by The person or programme that put you in front of them, or “none”.
What they asked Their question, in their words.
What you promised The item you owe them, such as the deck or an introduction.
Next step One action, with a verb.
Date The day that action is due.

A filled example row

The example below is fictional. Cheque size reads “the range they named” so that you replace it with what you were actually told.

Column Example
Name Yusuf Demirkan
Fund Bosphorus Growth Partners
Stage The rounds he named at the fintech summit
Cheque size The range he named
Thesis fit Cold chain software for the Gulf: close to what he backs
Introduced by Ines Varga
What he asked Who runs cold storage for food importers in the Gulf
What you promised The deck, and an introduction to Salma Qattan
Next step Send the deck with the introduction
Date Thursday 15 October 2026

Three messages for the weeks after a demo day

Send the first within a day or two, the second when you have news, and the third to close a thread. Change the bracketed parts and sign each one yourself.

Within a day or two, to deliver what you promised

Fits an investor who asked for something in the room.

Yusuf, thank you for stopping at our table at the fintech summit. The deck is attached, and so is the introduction to Salma Qattan at Jalwa Fresh Logistics, who runs the cold storage side. Could we find time for a short call next week to go through your questions?

A week or two later, when you have news

Fits an interested investor with nothing outstanding. Send it only if the news is real.

Yusuf, a short update since the summit: [one new fact, such as a customer signed, a pilot started or a question answered]. It bears on what you asked about [their question]. I will send a fuller note when [the next milestone], and I am glad to talk before then.

To close a thread that has gone quiet

Fits a conversation with no reply after your last message and a follow up of your own.

Yusuf, I do not want to fill your inbox, so this is my last note for now. If Bosphorus Growth Partners is not the right fund for this round, I would value a line on why. Either way, I will send an update when [the next milestone] is behind us.

Change the columns to your round, not the method

Adapt the columns and the wording to your round, and keep the method: the investor’s own question, a date you keep and one next step.

  • Use the investor’s own question, not your paraphrase.
  • Promise a date you will keep, not an early one you will miss.
  • Ask for one next step, not three.

Marrow keeps the list for you

Marrow keeps this list for one person. Say who the investor is, what they asked and what you promised in a voice note, and Marrow files the person, the meeting, a note and a follow up with its date when you named a day; photograph their card and it becomes a person with the name, role, company and contact details. The Follow ups tab shows what is due. Marrow has no pipeline, stages or amounts, so the stage and the cheque size you were told go in the note. It drafts a message on request, marked not sent, and you send it yourself. Marrow is in Beta. If your team runs the round on a shared tracker, keep that one, because Marrow is a personal tool.

The Follow ups tab on Open: under Overdue, a question for Ines Varga about the school licence, due 5 Oct; under Due today, the deck for Yusuf Demirkan; under Coming up, a Reminder to renew the trade licence and a follow up to confirm the Atlas Thread pop-up launch with Leila Shamoun on 11 Oct, each item with Done and Snooze buttons
